Independent Forums: What is your favorite food?

Ashish Gadnis: Lechona con arepa – Colombian street food


Independent Forums: Who or what has inspired you this year and why?

Ashish Gadnis: A smallholder mama farmer on the Zambia/Congo border because she is banked and supporting her family and she did it all by herself.


Independent Forums: What is your biggest source of motivation?

Ashish Gadnis: The poorest mama farmers and poorest mama waste pickers.


Independent Forums: How would you describe a typical day?

Ashish Gadnis: 19-20 hours working at BanQu, rest for sleep and prayer.


Independent Forums: What’s one thing about you that most people don’t know?

Ashish Gadnis: I love reggaeton, salsa, bachata, cumbia and vallenato music.

Independent Forums: What’s one thing about your organization that you wish more people knew?

Ashish Gadnis: That sustainable, transparent, traceable & equitable supply chains are profitable not just philanthropy.


Independent Forums: Where do you see the biggest opportunity for transformation within the food system?

Ashish Gadnis: Solve climate change, extreme poverty and gender inequality simultaneously.


Independent Forums: What are you most looking forward to at Future Food Systems 2022?

Ashish Gadnis: Looking forward to learning from the rest of the folks and sharing the voice of the poorest mama smallholder farmers who we work for.
