Get to know the thought leaders sharing their insights at the Future Food Systems event (25-26 January, Online | 2 March, London) in our dedicated speaker interview series.

Independent Forums: What is your favorite food? Catarina England: Vegetarian and ethnic food, for example Lebanese food

Independent Forums: Who or what has inspired you this year and why?

Catarina England: For me the reality of our planet has become even more obvious. We need to act now to make a difference. This fact has inspired me and my colleagues to push harder to realize our sustainable business development projects.

Independent Forums: What is your biggest source of motivation?

Catarina England: My 3 children are my biggest source of motivation. I would like to be able to leave them on a planet that will last for many more generations. My working teams also inspire me. Together we can make a difference to colleagues, customers and the planet by building new sustainable businesses that combine innovation with sustainability - keeping us within the limits of the planet.

Independent Forums: How would you describe a typical day?

Catarina England: A typical day for me looks quite the same with breakfast, getting the kids to school, work, lunch, dinner, getting the kids to hobby activities, my sports activity, homework for the kids, watching TV, etc. What strikes me when I look at the totality is the consumption of resources without giving anything back to the planet.

Independent Forums: What’s one thing about you that most people don’t know? Catarina England: That I love travelling, meeting people, new cultures, and testing new food. I love hiking in the mountains and forests with a backpack. I lived with Indians in Amazonas during one of my trips.

Independent Forums: What’s one thing about your organization that you wish more people knew?

Catarina England: That we firmly believe that future business will be built on sustainability as an integrated part of the running of the business and our global strategy. We wish to inspire and enable 1 billion people to live more sustainable lives by 2030 within the limits of the planet.

Independent Forums: Where do you see the biggest opportunity for transformation within the food system?

Catarina England: In order to achieve transformational changes, we need to accomplish a dietary shift to eating more plant-based food; we need to address food waste (reduce, reuse and recycle); we need more sustainable ways of growing food (regenerative farming, innovations, etc.); and we need to safeguard biodiversity.

Independent Forums: What are you most looking forward to at Future Food Systems 2022?

Catarina England: I look forward to getting to know people who are active within the same area. This can provide opportunities for co-operation, inspiration, and learning. We need joint and cross-functional sources to tackle the food problems and accomplish a food transformation. 😊 Together we can be strong!

Catarina will be speaking in the 'Sustainable Production & Consumption – Advancing the Shift to a Circular Food System' session on 26 January 2022.
